Midcoast Aviation earns STC ODA Designation from the FAA

March 12, 2010

Midcoast Aviation has received Supplemental Type Certificate Organization Designation Authorization (STC ODA) from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The designation enables the company to produce STCs in-house in support of its maintenance, repair, overhaul and completions activities.

The new STC ODA status replaces the company’s previous Designated Alteration Station (DAS) approval. The change supports the FAA’s goal of improving efficiency by allowing certain functions to be performed by a qualified entity.

Midcoast Aviation’s 100-person engineering department provides the design, analysis and testing required to support the complex and customized systems requested by Midcoast’s customers. In 2009, Midcoast produced 12 DAS STCs with the assistance of the FAA. It now is able to execute them with its own ODA resources.

“Earning the STC ODA designation is a testament to the strength of Midcoast Aviation’s engineering team,” said Midcoast President Don Petersen. “Midcoast Aviation provides highly-personalized solutions for its clients. Being an STC ODA will allow us to better serve our customers.”
