Savannah Air Center earns EASA STC for a flight data recorder

October 08, 2008

Savannah Air Center has recently received a Supplemental Type Certificate from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for a flight data recorder. Installed on a Gulfstream IV, the flight data recorder is a valuable upgrade for operators.

The first installation of a flight data recorder under an EASA STC by Savannah Air Center was accomplished on an European registered Gulfstream IV and was issued by EASA, acting in accordance with regulation (EC) No. 216/2008 on behalf of the European community, its member states and of the European third countries that participate in the activities of EASA under article 66.

The flight data recorder installation was comprised of an L3 Communications digital flight data recorder and Teledyne digital flight data acquisition unit. An L3 mini quick access recorder (QAR) also was included as an integral part of this installation to satisfy EASA requirements for periodic downloads.

“Savannah Air Center accomplished a major goal in achieving the flight data recorder STC with EASA,” stated senior vice president of engineering and certification Hoss Motlagh. “We are now positioned to offer this safety enhancement to the fleet of Gulfstreams residing in Europe and related countries,” added Motlagh. “This is another example of our growth and outreach into new markets and our continued effort to achieve complete customer satisfaction.”
